Sat & Sun 12/22 & 12/23

Saturday, Dec. 22nd:  Can you guess where I ran today???  If you said Fiesta Bay you would be right!  Just over 9 miles today to try and get back ahead of the game for 2112.  I'm sure Geddy, Neil, & Alex are reading this saying that I better get this done!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/255156314

Sunday, Dec. 23rd:  Today was a longer journey around Lake Murray but still a little fast for whatever reason.  I added on the end finger by the SCLL fields to add on more mileage for 8.5 miles.  Gotta keep rockin' the miles out to get these last 100 done.  Thanks for the great support and keep thinking about what you are going to do in 2013, I want to hear about it!

I will leave you with a video from one of my favorite bands, Cowboy Mouth, from the great city of New Orleans.  Not too many good ones out there but here is a live show of a great tune called EASY.  It is all about how it's so easy to complain about what is going on in our lives but it is worth it if you try to be glad for what you have and work hard for what you want!

Total Miles:   2061.23   Pace Runner:  2065.84   -  4.61 miles (Making up some ground so should be fine if I don't take too many days off!)

Love to the parental units, my family, friends & can't forget about my amazing supporters out there!  <3

W & F 12/19 & 12/21

Wednesday, Dec. 19th:  We are in the middle of finals at school and I have a lot of grading to do, but I obviously need to get some running done as well.  It was a crisp, clear day; a great day for running!    I did a 15K (9.3 miles) today around Fiesta Bay in record time.  I ran a 15K earlier this year in 1:22:46 and I did today's run in 1:16:15!  I was pretty excited to see how much I have improved!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/253109263

Friday, Dec. 21st:  Finals are over, so the kids are ecstatic!  Now it is the teacher's time to be overwhelmed.  Some simply do a scantron but I feel with my subject matters, I have to do some free response questions (FRQ's) as well to make sure they have full control of the material.  This can take a little time to get graded!  I ran Fiesta Bay again but I obviously was a little preoccupied with the grading that lied ahead as I made it last as long as I could!!!

Also, the world didn't end!  Hope you didn't buy in to the hype! :)

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/255156305

I have a little video for you today to make sure you finish the year (or a long running goal!) STRONG!  This is a favorite of mine that I show all my students/athletes at some point.

http://play.simpletruths.com/movie/finish-strong/

Here's to finishing your year with the Eye of the Tiger & to setting some great goals for 2013!  I took 2 days off this week so I have some ground to make up between now & the 31st!  Get it!

Total Miles:  2043.72   Pace Runner:  2054.30   - 10.58 miles  (I have some make-up miles to get done & quickly! Only 10 days left!)

Love to both of my wonderful parents & to all of you who donated and encouraged me along the way!  Keep me going for 10 more days! <3

Monday, December 17th

Monday, Dec. 17th:  Today we had a little end of 2012 celebration at the end of the school day.  They made a pathway that the students lined and I ran through it to signify the end of my run.  I thought it was going to be awkward but it was actually pretty cool!  Some of my students made a sign for me to run through:

Then I made them wait in anticipation....

Hi fives were going all around....

And then Tessya saved my lack of thought during a short interview!

They also shot a video that you can view here:

http://vimeo.com/55814749

I kind of blanked out.  Anyway, I ended up running a few more miles after school to keep the 2112 goal going forward.

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/252574159

I need to run about 100 miles in 2 weeks so I need to stay healthy and find the time to run some quality miles.  Here's to going the extra mile (or 100 in this case!)

Total Miles:  2025.61   Pace Runner:   2031.21   -  5.6 miles behind pace, I better get moving!

Love to you Mom, Dad, family, and all those who are supporting me! <3

Sat & Sun, 12/15 & 12/16

Saturday, Dec. 15th:  Today is going to be the day!  I began with a morning run around Fiesta Bay and was happy to see the gal who gave me this crazy idea in the first place, Christine Dancey!  She was running the opposite way with a friend and she was concerned that I was going to finish by myself!  So sweet!  She has run 2010 in 2010 & 2011 in 2011 not to mention the fact that she ran 50 miles on her 50th birthday!  Amazing!!!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/252574147

I was bummed that I missed the CCHS kids & Dan but that would have made the day too perfect, I guess!  Next up, I did my last 5K with my brother Brian who does little true running any more.  He mostly does the elliptical these days in deference to his knees.  It was great to finish with him at the Miramar Reservoir, my 1st run there this year, oddly enough.  That put me at 2012.01 officially!!!!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/252574147

Tried to straight download this video w/o going thru Youtube so we will see if it works or not...

Then we went to Ballast Point for a little celebration!!!  Met Theresa, Chrislyn, and Dave there for a well deserved Victory at Sea!  Diane Bell was kind enough to put a little piece in the U-T on my run thanks to Kimberly King today as well:

http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/dec/14/math-teacher-gets-lot-mileage-out-2012/

Next stop, 2112!  For all you Rush fans out there, I'm doing this last 100 for the best band in the world, who are finally being recognized this year by the R&R HoF!

Keep the encouragement coming!

Sunday, Dec. 16th:  Thought I would have a little fun today.  I was just going to cruz this one for some miles but, being at Lake Murray, my body always wants to go!  So, part way through, i realized that I had a decent pace going and began to push a little and ended up running my best ever 10 K, 49:06, under 8:00 min/mile pace!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/252574154

Total Miles:  2018.21  Pace Runner:  1929.54   +  88.67 miles (I need to be +100 by the 31st to get 2112 for all you math geniuses out there!)

Love you Mom & Dad, WE DID IT!!!!!  THANKS FOR ALL YOUR LOVE & SUPPORT!!!! <3

Mon - Wed 12/10 - 12/12

Monday 12/10:  Did the freeway run after school with add-ons.  Got a late start but got over 7 in so I was content.

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/250955818

Tuesday 12/11:  Freeway run + swamp run to the "scary house" (dubbed by my girls on the XC country team) Got in over 9 miles which I am very happy about even though it is tough after a day at school.

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/251733996

Wednesday 12/12:  Did the double Bay (Fiesta + Sail) for the first time in quite a while and after school, it was probably not a good idea.  My friend Theresa went with me on a bike so it was good to have someone to help me finish as the last couple of miles got a bit difficult. (This one looks really good on the Garmin map!)  The best part was that I broke the 2000 mile mark!  I never thought this day would come!  Hard to believe but here it is!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/251734001

Again, I want to thank you for the wonderful support that you have shown to me over the past 11+ months and that I couldn't have made it this far without all of you!  Thanks for the amazing donations (I will recap that when I get to the end) and the comments (especially you, Julia!).

So excited to get this in the books but then I want to get the extra 100 in (I know, even my dad thinks I'm crazy!)  Anyway, keep the faith and thanks again for being patient with these posts.  Going to catch up this week if it destroys me!

Total Miles:  2000.10   Pace Runner:  1907.55  + 92.55 miles!

LOVE you Mom & Pops!  Can't believe we made it to 2000! <3

Sat & Sunday 12/8 & 9

Sat Dec. 8th:  Ran a good paced 9 miles around Fiesta Bay and am feeling good about getting this done early (about 2 weeks or so) and then plan on going an extra 100 miles for 2112 (yes, I am a Rush fan!)

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/250955814

I hope you are doing well and getting in the Christmas spirit.  Not the buying of gifts but the true spirit of Christmas, spending time with those you love!  And if you aren't, maybe this will help:

Sunday Dec. 9th:  Ran this one quick as I was running out of sunlight!  It was a tough run but a good one!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/250955816

I am pushing toward the end.  You would think with the light at the end of the tunnel it would get a little easier but to be honest, my legs are dead and my shins are always day to day.  I try to just run and check my mind out on other things!

Here's to a quick finish and I hope a healthy one!  Cheers!

Total Miles:  1971.04  Pace Runner:  1891.06   + 79.98 miles ahead of pace!  That's what I'm talking about!

Love you Mom & Pops!  Almost there... <3

M - F 12/3 - 12/7

Monday, Dec. 3rd:  Ran around my neighborhood of Allied Gardens due to it getting late and lack of sun!  Haven't done this in a while but was good to see all the Christmas lights.  As you can see from the map, I ran all kinds of extras to get more mileage today!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/249231980

Tuesday, Dec. 4th:  WOW!  I have the shin splint from hell right now!  I thought my leg was starting to break or something!  I guess I won't be running in my neighborhood anymore!  I sucked it up and ran anyway, like any good runner would.  I did the combo freeway/swamp run and got in over 9!  Hoping some ice and good stretching will cure this baby quick!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/250027039

Thursday, Dec. 6th:  Felt better yesterday but still thought it was a good idea to give it some rest.  I only ran 5 miles today as my Garmin was giving me fits.  I guess I better fully charge it every run or I may not get all of my info in, frustrating!  That's OK because this is going to be the start of a long productive streak!  Time to Finish Strong!  Good motivational movie:

http://play.simpletruths.com/movie/finish-strong/

Friday, Dec. 7th:  Pearl Harbor Day.  Today's run was for all of our military, past, present, & future for the great sacrifices they all make for us to live the lives that we take for granted everyday.  Thanks Dad for being my hero, my friend, my role model, and my mentor in life!  I LOVE YOU!

This run was almost a 1/2 marathon, freeway, swamp, and to the HWY 5 and back to school.  On a roll and no time to look back!  Let's do this!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/250027041

Total Miles:  1952.03  Pace Runner:  1880.07   + 71.96 miles!  back over 70, very happy!

Love you both dearly, Mom & Dad! Looking forward to putting this in the books! <3

Found this today and of course thought immediately of Natalie & Amanda!  I know the this is what they would be telling you Post & Nield families!  They always give me comfort and support when I feel I can't run anymore & they have brought me this far and won't let me stop until I reach my goal!

Always missed, always loved, always cherished, always remembered!  NN&AP

Dec. 1st & 2nd Sat & Sun

Saturday December 1st:

Wow, it's really hear, the 12th month!  The last month!  I almost can't believe it!  And at 1900 + miles I really don't have that far to go!

I ran the Fiesta Bay loop (probably my favorite run) today with the Ski Beach addition and then a little extra loop where I park for good measure!

Not sure what I have or haven't posted before as I have lost track so you might see a few things you have seen before depending upon how long you have been following but they will be good I think!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/249231948

For you non-locals, here is Fiesta Bay.  Ski Beach boat ramp on the left and Bay Park in the background.

Sunday, December 2nd:

With my tired body, it still manages to surprise me once in a while!  Historically, over the past 11 months, running at Lake Murray always seems to bring out my speed (if you can call it that!).  I usually run faster here for no apparent reason.  Well, today I managed to run my fastest time of any real distance, just over 8 min. miles with my 7th mile being my fastest ever @ 7:42/mile.  I want to see what I can do when I'm well rested now!!!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/249231965

That much closer and I hope that you will all keep me in your thoughts  and prayers as I come down the home stretch along with my parents and all the great people who have donated, commented, shared and cheered me on along the way!

I love this quote from a great actor I'm sure you will recognize:

Here's to a healthy December everyone!  Cheers!

Total Miles:  1918.38   Pace Runner:  1852.58  + 65.8 miles ahead of pace!  (Trying to get back to 70 + soon)

Love you Mom & Dad!  Thinking of you all the time! <3

Sunday, December 9, 2012

M - Th 11/26 - 11/29

Monday 11/26:  My extended version of the "freeway run" with all kinds of little add-ons gets me that much closer to the 1900 mile mark!  Also found out that our girls XC team took 2nd place in the state meet on Saturday!  It was the highest finish in school history!  Also, Paula who was on my JV team just last year, finished 11th, one spot away from being All-State!  She will be back next year and I am so proud of her work ethic, drive, determination to improve... I could go on & on...!  Way to go ladies!!!  So proud of you!!!  You too Dan!

Also want to give Notre Dame some props for their great season and now their trip to the BCS championship game!!!!  12-0 beating 4 top 20 teams and the season opening # 1 seeded team USC!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/247428393

Tuesday 11/27:  Did the freeway run combined with the swamp run again today which is a good mileage eater!  It can be a little long mentally, especially the end is pretty up hill, but when you are finished, it is very rewarding to see close to 10 miles added to the total!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/247428398

Wednesday 11/28:  Today, the creature of habit branched out a little and put together a couple of XC runs to make a longer 2012 run!  I did the Torrey Pines run and then from the bottom of the stairs I did the 3rd light run in reverse.  Not a bad route but a little long for the JV gals.

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/248024988

Thursday 11/29:  The "freeway run" with add-ons was the route again today.  Had a new experience today up at the intersection of Rancho Santa Fe Farms and Carmel Valley.  They are doing construction to widen the road and there was some fresh blacktop that I ran over.  It was pretty cool feeling the heat from the fresh tar as I ran over it.  Helped that it was a cool day to begin with but a neat feeling none the less.  Oh, by the way, did I tell you that I broke 1900 miles today!!!!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/248024997

Hoping that I didn't post this already but what heck.  It is a good one anyway!  Hope you had a happy thanksgiving!

Total Miles:  1900.96  Pace runner:  1836.09  +  64.87 miles (creeping back to respectability!)

Love and miss you Mom& Pops!  <3

23rd & 24th Fri & Sat

Friday November 23rd:  Black Friday for most but I took it upon myself to get a great run in at Red Rock Canyon.  I don't run on the loop because there is some serious hill for about the 1st 6 miles or so!  I run on the road that is Charleston that turns into Blue Diamond.  I always park in front of the enterance to the conservation area or loop and then run along the road.  Today I went further than ever before to Spring Mountain Ranch.  Usually nice with little traffic.  Mostly bikes and rarely another runner do I see.  Felt good today with all that turkey in me!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/247428385

Saturday the 24th of November:  Back at it again, for 10 more miles on the same path but did a little 2nd loop to get in all 10.  Happy with the times for both runs and can't say that I saw any cool animals or anything out of the ordinary.  I did see, on both days, a car club with a couple of Ferrari's, an A8, and a few other nice rides, just cruising up and down the road!

M - W Nov. 19 - 21

Monday Nov. 19th:  The ever-popular "freeway run" was done today with the usual add-ons for getting that extra mileage.  Not much to say about today other than I am that much closer to seeing my parents and my family from the rest of the country!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/245014899

Tuesday Nov. 20th:  The "freeway run" with the "swamp run" tacked on was the route today.  Some good mileage and moving closer to the goal.  It's getting exciting I would have to say!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/247428375

Wednesday, Nov. 21st:  Another trip around Fiesta Bay for a nice morning run.  I have the Rush show tonight at the old SD Sports Arena (not sure what they are calling it these days...).  Then, it's off to Vegas for Thanksgiving in the morning.  Most-likely won't have time to run tomorrow but should make it out to Red Rock while I am there.

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/247428380

That will be it for now, I'll get the Vegas runs in on the next post.  Here is wishing you all a fantastic Thanksgiving with you and yours!  THANK YOU for all of your wonderful support throughout this adventure!  Can't thank you all enough!  I am VERY THANKFUL for ALL of YOU!!!!!!

Sat & Sun, 17th & 18th of Nov.

Saturday, Nov. 17th:

Today was the CIF finals for Cross Country (XC for short) and it was an up and down day to say the least.  I didn't get the run in that I wanted but what can you do!  The girls started things off and a junior, Paula, who ran for me last year on JV, finished 7th and the top 6 all finished 20th or better to win CIF!!!  The rough part of this race was our 7th finisher, CC, who would have finished top 20 but about 25 yards away from the finish line collapsed!  She struggled to get up a couple of times and keep running but kept losing her balance.  She ended up walking the rest of the way and still finished 31st.  What a trooper!

I guess that was the start of the downfall as the boys didn't fare quite so well.   There were 6 teams that were pretty evenly matched but we just didn't run our best races.  We had our top 5 all in the top 42 but it wasn't good enough.  We finished 6th but 2 - 6 were all within 20 points of each other!  Still a great season guys and Patrick finished 3rd to make it to state along with the girls team!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/244892527

Sunday, Nov. 18th:

Saw the Rush show in Anaheim with my friend Chris Babbitt last night.  A very different show but always great in my opinion!  They played some more off the beaten path songs along with most of their new "Clockwork Angels" album with a 7 piece string ensemble.  Had a very large man fall back down the stairs on me & I had no other choice but to catch him.  I managed to mess my back up a little in the process though.  Tonight's run was cut a little short due to my back and the fact that the sun was going down at a rapid pace!

The Mission Bay Park part of the Fiesta Bay loop.  I'll get more miles in soon to get back on track!

Keep the support coming in any form possible!  DONATE!, SHARE! & SUPPORT!  THANK YOU!

Total Miles:  1825.93   Pace Runner:   1775.62   +  50.31 miles!

M - F Nov. 12th - 16th

Tuesday, Nov. 13th:  I took yesterday off to rest after the 1/2 marathon (I thought it was well deserved!) but put in a good run at Mission Bay today!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/244892507

There was a crazy low tide but the sunset was fantastic.  That is my favorite time to run, either sunrise or sunset.  I love living in America's Finest City!  Oh ya, I crossed the 1,800 mile mark today too!!!!

Wednesday, Nov. 14th:  I ran the "freeway run" at school today with as many mile adders included as possible.  (see map on the garmin link)

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/244892515

Friday, Nov. 16th:  Another stroll around Fiesta Bay but in good time (under (9:00 pace) which isn't too bad if I do say so myself for an old guy.

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/244892522

Saw all the 3 - Day walkers coming into their tent city at Crown Point on my run as well.  They must have inspired me to run faster!  Great job to all of you who donated and participated.  A shout out to one of my students who is the daughter of Julie Walz Giacalone, Sam!  We are all praying for Lisa!

Here's to living in the present and to a great future without cancer or Parkinson's!!!  Please DONATE, SHARE, & SUPPORT!!!!!   I thank you all for following my journey.  Stay tuned for the exciting climax to see if I make it or not... everyday is a new adventure!

Sunday, November 11th

Silver Strand Half Marathon:  Today was a fun race!  Hung out with my friend Janet for the 1st 8 miles and then actually ran the last 5 as you can see by the mile times:

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/244892494

Here we are before the start, ready to roll! It was a perfect day to run,  nice and cool!  The last time I ran this race it was baking from the get go and people were dropping like flies from the heat.  A lack of water stops didn't help matters either!  Luckily, they have come a long way since then and I would say that this race is much better organized.  The medals still are on the low end of the scale though compared to the other 1/2's I have run.

My friend Dan Guillory took this as he is at most of these races working for West Coast Roadrunners.  Thanks Dan!  When I am actually in the air, that is a good sign that I am actually running fairly hard!  Finish Strong is the motto!

I will do my best to get caught up here in the next week or so, so with any luck, I will have posts flying up here at a fast and furious pace!  Keep your fingers crossed!

Also, as we get down to the end of this crazy journey, please share my story, blog, FB page:

and donate if you have not had the chance already!  A great tax break is coming your way if you do & it may be the last time you get to get the tax benefit, who knows???

Total Miles:  1792.41  Pace Runner:  1737.14   +  55.27 miles (back over 50 mile cushion, yea!)  Now it's time to really stretch it out!

Love to you both Mom & Pops!  Thanksgiving is coming...

Saturday November 10th

Today I wanted to try and save a little something for the Silver Strand 1/2 marathon tomorrow so I did a morning run at Lake Murray and actually managed to keep my pace down to a reasonable level of 9:00!  I did really have to put my mind to it though!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/244892485

I don't plan of running too hard tomorrow but you never know what can happen when you start running!

I learn to appreciate this more and more everyday!  There have been ups and downs but I know I will look back at this as one of the greatest experiences of my life!

Total Miles:  1779.17   Pace Runner:  1731.64   +  47.53 miles (I'll get back over the 50 mark tomorrow!)

Love you Mom & Pops!  Thanksgiving can't get here soon enough! <3

M - F 5th - 9th of Nov.

Monday, Nov. 5th:  What a crazy weekend!  Got some sort of a flu bug that had me down all weekend.  Fever & chills, the works!  Still not 100% but ran 2.9 miles today just to test it out.  Forgot my watch so used the Nike plus on my phone.  Stomach not there yet but hopefully I am going in the right direction!

Tuesday, Nov. 6th:  Increased the miles today.  We did a short warm up run with the girls for XC & then I added the freeway (56) run in for some extra mileage.  League finals are tomorrow so I'm hoping for some great races!

Thursday, Nov. 8th:  Great races yesterday!  Jessi Sanborn won girls race, Patrick Bourke won boys race, & Gabby Thomas won the girls JV race!  League champs all around too!  So I celebrated with a long run.  I combined the freeway run with the swamp run & got 9 good miles in!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/241763743

Friday, Nov. 9th:  Happy Friday!  I did my old stand-by around Fiesta Bay and actually ran into an old Blessed Sacrament friend, Katie Clapp.  You just never know who you are going to run into!  It was a good run and I think I should make the 1/2 on Sunday ok.  Wasn't sure if I had the stamina still after so many days off recently... time will tell!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/241763749

Total Miles:  1772.87   Pace Runner:  1726.14   + 46.73 miles  (lowest cushion since probably back in April!)  Time to get to work!

Love to my Mom & Dad & looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks! <3

Some great XC motivation & cool story!  Enjoy!

M - TH Oct. 29 - Nov. 1st

Monday, Oct. 29th:  My Garmin was on the fritz today so I ran with Coach Linn's Garmin for 4.73 miles.  Just a medium run with the XC team.

Tuesday, Oct. 30th:  Short run for the XC team today as we have our last league meet tomorrow vs. Serra HS.  I then added the freeway run to it for a little over 8 miles.  Garmin is working again, yeah!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/241763727

Thursday, Nov. 1st:  Did 1st light, left trail to the stairs today.  Had a decent meet but it was warm so the times weren't what the kids were looking for.

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/241763732

Total Miles:  1746.06   Pace Runner:  1682.16   +  63.90 miles  (hanging tough but not feeling 100%)

Love to all as we move to the last 2 months of this journey.  THANK YOU for all of your support in any and all forms that it has come in!  I couldn't do it without you!

In honor of Halloween, here is a classic Halloween light house show.  The Party Rock Anthem one is good too!  Enjoy!

Saturday, Oct. 27th

What an awesome day for a run in the city by the bay!  I won't go into all the info as you can check the stats out on the garmin link below but I will tell you that running in the City is not for the faint of heart.  Nob Hill & Russian Hill are no joke for a flatlander like me!

But once I got down to the waterfront, it was a great run!  Going over the bridge and back was very cool too!  Had a great time at Beth & Ben's wedding and it is always good to see my old friends from my Santa Barbara days!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/238177619

Here are a couple of shots from my run.  I took my phone just in case and that way I could take a few pics as well!

The gal who took this one was taking forever but I guess it was worth it!

This was a self portrait that turned out amazingly well.  I didn't have my glasses so I couldn't check it before I got back to the hotel!

Here are the newlyweds!  Congrats Beth & Ben!

Total Miles:  1728.83   Pace Runner:  1654.68   +  74.15 miles ahead of pace!

Love to all my friends who are supporting me so well and to my folks too!  <3

M - F Oct. 22 - 26

Monday, Oct. 22  We had a short practice day with speed work on the track and so I ran the freeway run after practice to get a little more mileage!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/236417693

Tuesday, Oct. 23 Short warm up run day before our meet so it was short.  Not much to report but a couple more miles...

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/236524705

Thursday, Oct. 25th  Pretty good meet yesterday but not much competition in the western league!  We did Torrey Pines run and them I added on up to 4th light to get over 8 miles total!  Onward & upward!

http://connect.garmin.com/player/238177606

Friday, Oct. 26th  Today I snuck in a Lake Murray run before I left for my friends' wedding in San Francisco.  Looking forward to a great run tomorrow in the city by the Bay!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/238177611

Not a terrible week mileage wise with a day off included and I hope to get a long one in tomorrow!

Thanks for the continued support as this is not getting any easier with the nagging aches and pains mounting over time!  DONATE!  SUPPORT! and PLEASE SHARE my story and blog address with others!  I greatly appreciate it!  The 26th is day 300 by the way, so only 66 more days to get this done!

Total Miles:   1714.27  Pace Runner:  1649.18  +  65.09 miles  (Hangin' tough but I need your support!)

Love you Mom & Dad!

Sunday, Oct. 21st

Today was a good catch up day as far as miles go with 10.4 miles around Fiesta Bay + the whole area of Ski Beach added in.

http://connect.garmin.com/player/236417684

Side note:  Sorry I have fallen so far behind in these postings but I just never seem to find time to get them done!  I still am not sleeping as I need to and between school work, XC, property management, and other activities, I am always scrambling to get these done (along with everything else in my life!).  I will work on getting caught up in the coming weeks!  Thanks for your patience!

Check out my facebook group: 2012 in 2012 for more up to date info as I try to post there about 1 - 2 times a week.

For now, I will share this:

Thanks for all of your continued support and I hope that you keep encouraging me, spreading the word, and donating!

Total Miles:  1689.92  Pace Runner:   1621.69   +  68.23 miles!

Love to you, Mom & Dad!

Saturday, Oct. 20th

Early morning run after a busy Friday!  Ran the long version of the Fiesta Bay run going around Mission Bay HS.  The kids did great at Mt. Sac!  The Frosh represented well especially considering their 2 best were running in different races!  The JV girls won the National Championship race which shows our depth.  The girls Varsity took 4th in their sweepstakes race and I believe the boys Varsity took 6th in their sweepstakes race.  A great day was had by all and the heat was not as bad as it could have been!  Great job DONS!

Spent a lot of time in traffic trying to get to the Dons vs. Saints football game and barely made it to see the final 5 minutes!  At least we got to listen to it on the radio and they made a great comeback to win it!

Pretty good steady pace except for mile 6, but I always feel better after a day off!  We also had a busy day with Open House at school today!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/236417677

Total Miles:  1679.52   Pace Runner:  1616.20   +  63.32 miles (moving back in the right direction!)

Love to my folks who continue to fight the good fight!  <3

M- F Oct. 15 - 19

The week of Oct. 15 - 19th:

Monday:  Was a new run for you.  We did what we refer to as the "Swamp Run" because it goes by this pool of water at a golf course which is frequently covered by green moss when it hasn't rained in a while.  It is really just part of the 56 bike path that I ran often before cross country season during the school year.

http://connect.garmin.com/player/233905494

For cross country purposes, we go up Old Carmel Valley which has a pretty good hill in it on the north side of the 56 to get back up to school.  Not usually a favorite with the girls but it is good hill training for them as they prepare for Mt. SAC race on Friday!

Tuesday:  Did a double today for some extra miles.  First, was our 1st light, past stairs, left trail, back to the stairs.  Usual run no troubles.

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/234206324

The 2nd part was short, just the neighborhood run with a trip down OLD Carmel Valley to the end of cul-de-sac and back to school.  Just wanted some extra mileage as I will need it!

http://connect.garmin.com/player/234214728

Wednesday:  We had a hill party for more Mt. SAC prep & I ran four of the hill repeats after the neighborhood warm up.  I then added on a trip up to the 4th light on Carmel Valley.  Mixed it up a bit by going under the street on an almost finished tunnel at Lopellia Meadows Pl.  The tunnel is therem they just didn't finish the other side as far as a sidewalk goes.

http://connect.garmin.com/player/236417663

Thursday:  A quick 2nd light and short tune up for Mt. SAC.  Hope they are up for it tomorrow! :)

http://connect.garmin.com/player/236417670

Another week in the books as I know I won't have time to run tomorrow with driving to LA and back.  Hope to catch the 2nd half of the Dons vs. Saints football game (formerly known as the Charity Bowl!)  By the way, I won both games that I played in!  8-0 & 21-0!  ROLL DONS!

Total Miles:  1670.82   Pace Runner:  1610.70   +  60.12 miles (that is with the day off for Mt. SAC!)

Love to all my supporters!  I can't do it with out you!  Let me hear from you!  <3

Sunday, Oct. 14th

Well, my Garmin was on the fritz again today so I went with my Nike + app on my phone and carried it around the bay with me!  Pretty frustrating but that's the way it goes.  I ran 8.18 miles and it well despite having to hold my phone!

Still haven't figured out how to get the info from Nike + but might have to if I have to use it more often.

Saturday, Oct. 13th

Still can't quite put my finger on it, but I run crazy fast when I run at Lake Murray and today may have been my best effort yet as far as speed goes.  I ran my 7th mile at 7:51.  I remember just a few short months ago, I couldn't dream of running my 1st & only mile at that pace!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/233882731

In any event it was a good run and I have to assume it is because it reminds me of my childhood (playing little league at the fields down there & exploring all over the place, including going inside the dam!)

Here is a fun photo I haven't shared yet!  I'm getting into the ice whirlpool at school and it is always tough when you go up to your waist!  A little embarrassing but I'm sure some of you will enjoy it or can relate!

More fun awaits...

Total Miles:  1637.04   Pace Runner:  1577.72   +  59.32 miles

M - F Oct. 8th - 12th

Here is another quick review of the week that was 10/8 - 10/12:

Monday was a holiday from school so the JV girls XC team met at the beach in Del Mar.  Unfortunately my Garmin was frozen and I had to download Nike + App to my phone and run with it in my hand!  It is actually pretty cool & was free, I just don't want to run with my phone, even on my arm.  4.28 miles.

Tuesday I did a double run.  1st with the XC team for practice 2nd light to the stairs in the canyon.  2nd was the freeway run for some extra mileage.  8.44 miles total.  Got the Garmin working with help from Google!

http://connect.garmin.com/player/232090403

Wednesday we had our meet vs. OLP & Saints and it was no contest!  ROLL DONS!  No run to celebrate!

Thursday did another double run as I will have to do this to keep the miles coming at a reasonable pace.  Did the freeway run then on to the Old/New CarmelValley loop for a total of 8.03 miles.

http://connect.garmin.com/player/233882716

Friday we did a track workout which I think I should start doing with them just to keep some miles up.  Only did the warm up run and wanted more but had to work the football scoreboard.  A disappointing 1.84 miles.  Hope for some decent mileage this weekend!

Total Miles:  1629.96  Pace runner:  1572.22   +  57.74  (So much for not under 60 again!  On ward and upward!

Love you Mom & Pops.  Keep fighting the good fight!  <3

Keep the comments, prayers, sharing, & donations coming, we are nearing the end (over 81%done) so the time is short to raise this last piece of money.  I didn't come this far to come up short!  Please help me in anyway you think you can!  THANK YOU ALL!

Sunday, October 7th

I finally had some company again from my brother & his wife on their bicycle built for two!  My brother and sister-in-law, Jetsy, took some good photos too that I will share.

http://connect.garmin.com/player/232090389

We went around Fiesta Bay (I know, how boring!  I always run there but it is a great place to get in 8 miles and it is usually beautiful.

My brother, Brian & I before the run.  (Amazing what having vitamin C everyday while growing up can do!)  It was a great way to clinch the 1600 mile mark and it was a nice day for a run as well!

Going over the new bridge behind Mission Bay HS and next to Campland on the Bay.  It goes over the Rose Inlet as I have mentioned before.

This is on the north end of Crown Point and I made it big so you could see the nice view of the San Diego skyline in the background.

Further south on Crown Point I decided to ham it up for the camera a little!  Great work by Brian to catch that as I only did it once!

And finally a little stretching afterwards.  Actually I do A LOT of stretching and I attribute my ability to keep going to stretching after each and every run!  So important...

Thanks for following and supporting & please let me know if you can help me to advertise!  Take care!

Total miles:  1607.37   Pace Runner:  1544.73  +62.64  (back above 60 again feels very good!  I won't let that drop down that low again!)

Love you Mom & Dad and am praying for you everyday, in every class! <3

Saturday, Oct. 6th

Ran at Canyonside Park today in PQ with the varsity XC team.  I went early and got a few miles in before their practice.  I then waited for one of our best JV kids, Madi, to show up so that the varsity didn't have to wait.  Google maps does not always do great work!  We had a good 6 mile run and with the 4 that I did early, I got in double digits which is always a good day!

http://connect.garmin.com/player/232090376

Just a hair away from 1600 miles after today so I will have to do another good one tomorrow to get way ahead of the 1600 mark!  Keep up the support, comments, & donations!  Remember I have plenty of advertising print ads if you have a place for them, please let me know & I will get them either to you or to the place itself!  THANK YOU!!!

Total Miles:  1599.00   Pace Runner:  1539.23   + 59.77  Going back in the right direction!

Love to my Vegas family!  Can't wait to see you all again soon! <3

M - F Oct. 1st - 5th

Well, we are looking at about 1/4 of the way to go on this wild journey and I am still happy to say that I have been ahead of the game the whole way!

Here is the week that was!

Monday, Oct. 1st:  Did the Torrey Pines canyon run today.  Need to bump up the mileage soon though!

http://connect.garmin.com/player/229080754

Tuesday, Oct. 2nd:  Short pre-race run, 1st light to the stairs and I added a trip around the track for a little extra.  Our 1st league meet tomorrow!

http://connect.garmin.com/player/230160487

Thursday, Oct. 4th:  Well, it could have been better, the girls won but the boys lost to UC by 1 point!  2 of our top 5 had bad days but no excuses!  JV kids did well!

http://connect.garmin.com/player/230160496

Friday, Oct. 5th:  Hill party!  I did 5 hills and managed not to hurt myself!  Miracles do happen!

http://connect.garmin.com/player/230160496

The good news is that the boys can still win league with a win over UC in the league finals and a little help!  Lastly, for you tonight, I have a song that I am believing in more and more through this crazy journey.  I'm giving you an older live version that has the late great Clarence in it.  Do it Big Man!  Definitely one of my favorite live acts of all time!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxuThNgl3YA

Total Miles:  1588.99  Pace Runner:  1533.74  +  55.25  (the lowest my cushion has gone to date, a big weekend is in order!)

Love to my folks who keep battling everyday!  :)  <3

Sept. 30th Sunday

Tonight I did a simple out and back on the east side of Fiesta Bay.  I was exhausted after a very long day in PV for our meet but our kids did very well with the highlight being the Frosh girls dominating the competition!  Boys and girls ran together and many of our girls were beating boys!

http://connect.garmin.com/player/228959691

Here are some photos I took with my iPhone 3 so not great quality but better than nothing!

Here is Madi & Gabby who were the only Frosh left to stand on the podium to receive their 1st place bobblehead trophy!

Here is Izzy, Jenny, & Angela accepting their 2nd place JV race plaque.

Here is the whole girls squad group photo.  As you can see, Everyone who raced has some hardware  around their neck!  Great job!

Total Miles:  1573.59   Pace Runner:  1506.25   +  67.34 miles  If I can finish our season up at least 60-70 miles ahead of pace, I will be content!

Love to all the Parkinson's and cancer patients out there!  I'm still running for ya! <3

Sept. 29th Saturday

Hi all,

Just another quick run around Lake Murray this morning before taking off to Palos Verdes for our XC meet.  This is a fun course that has bales of hay to jump over and a good hill called Agony!  Hope our Frosh girls do well as we anticipate.

http://connect.garmin.com/player/228959681

I have some icing to do along with laundry, sleep, etc.  I'll recap the races tomorrow & hope to get a little run in there as well.

Going into the 4th Quarter, folks!  Please help me get this last bit of donations in!  SHARE, ENCOURAGE, DONATE!!!!!  Thank you!

Total Miles:  1567.32   Pace Runner:   1500.75   +  66.57 miles (help I'm shrinking!)

Love you Mom & Dad!  <3

Sept. 24th - 28th M-F

Another new week and more miles to put under my feet!  Hoping to keep what cushion I have left in tact so I will be running more often, please keep me going!

Monday:  Today I did a long run with the Varsity up at San Elijo Lagoon.  It was a nice change from our usual canyon runs!

http://connect.garmin.com/player/226656403

Tuesday:  Torrey Pines run today.  We had a girl get numb feet so we will have to see if her shoes don't fit, are tied too tight, or there is some other crazy thing going on...

http://connect.garmin.com/player/227698177

Wednesday:  Hill Party in honor of hump day!  For some reason the girls really do well when we do hills.  Maybe they just want them to be done so they crank them out, who knows!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/227698190

Thursday: Today we did an adventure run as we had not been on this trail before.  We went to 4th light (Rancho Santa Fe Farms and then turned left and cut through the canyon that way.  It was different and therefore, good!

http://connect.garmin.com/player/227698202

Friday:  We did our first track/speed workout today.  The girls ran a series of 800's to try and work on the their closing speed at the end of a race.  They did very well and hopefully will get used to turning it on as they head for home!  I had to time so not much running for me today.  :(

http://connect.garmin.com/player/228959671

That is the week and we head up to Palos Verdes for our meet tomorrow.  Only 2 of our JV girls are going but I am confident that they will do well, they have been working hard!

I just hope to get some running in for myself!  Early AM run tomorrow planned before we drive up north!

Total Miles:  1560.96   Pace runner:  1495.26   +  65.70 miles  (I have to turn this trend around!)

Love to all who have supported in me in any way these past few months!  THANK YOU! <3

Sunday, Sept. 23rd

Sunday's run was the usual trip around the Fiesta Bay trying to beat the sun!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/226656377

If I repeat anything on here, I apologize but didn't keep track of what I have posted and what I just wanted to post!  I think there are a few more people reading now than in the beginning so it might be good to repeat some of the better things that I have put on here!

I do really need motivation to keep myself going and to stay on track to get my extended goal of 2,112 miles in honor of my favorite band RUSH!  Here is the song "Marathon" that is on my playlist (I have actually used the same play list for the whole 1500 +  miles!) so here it is I think again!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUcdRLn3bgM

Thanks again for all of the continued support, donations, and please share this blog or the Facebook group "2012 in 2012" that is more for the time crunched supporter!

I also just got a shipment of 100 t-shirts ($20) so let me know if you would like to purchase a part of history! :)

This is the main logo on the back with a 2012 in 2012 on the front "pocket" and there are also small logo's for ACS & MJFoxFoundation.

Hope you all have a great week!

Total Miles:   1541.48  Pace Runner:  1467.77   + 73.71 miles  Keep me moving forward please! :)

Love you M & D!  Hope you are well and GO IRISH!!!!  <3

Saturday Sept. 22nd

Part 1 of my run today was at Lake Murray.  Haven't run here in quite a few weeks!  Wanted to get some mileage in before our practice this am so got an early start. (7:13AM)  I always run a little fast here as I think I am usually under some time constraint for some reason!

http://connect.garmin.com/player/226205341

Next, I'm off to our practice at Morley Field in Balboa Park at 9AM  They are building where some of our old course used to be so we now have to run some pieces more times.  I think it will work out alright but time will tell.

http://connect.garmin.com/player/226205355

Managed to get in 9.5 miles today which is a good chunk of mileage, so I am pretty happy.

Here is a great leadership video (very short!) that I like to share with my students and Ambassadors.  Hope you can get something out of it as well!:

http://play.simpletruths.com/movie/rock-solid-leadership/

100 days left in the year to finish this off!  Please help in anyway that you can: financial, emotional, or sharing this with others!  Thank you!

Total Miles:  1533.15  Pace Runner:   1462.27   + 70.88  gained a little back!

Love ya Mom & Pops!  Stay positive and take life one day at a time! <3

Sept 17th - 21st M-F

Saturday was pretty crazy with the heat at our meet.  Multiple kids on other teams were taken away in ambulances due to heat exhaustion.  They shortened the course twice as it got hotter & towards the end it actually got a little cooler but our kids did pretty well and we were happy that our kids did not over do it and all walked away on their own after their races!

Here is the week in review:

Monday:  Long run (at least fro the girls!) Ran 3rd light, left trail back to the stairs.  Actually got my quota in for today which is great!

http://connect.garmin.com/player/224070076

Tuesday:  Torrey Pines run (a fan favorite amongst the girls)  it is a cool single track run once you get in the canyon.

http://connect.garmin.com/player/224721397

Wednesday:  Hill party today!  We run a dirt hill behind the tennis courts and the baseball field.  Pretty good workout & I ran 3 hills today!

http://connect.garmin.com/player/224721400

Thursday:  Today we ran 1st light, left trail, back to the stairs.  Tara ran with us from varsity and I tried to keep up with her and that lasted for about 2 miles and then I died!  Check out my 1st 2 mile splits and then the next 2!

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/225066681

Friday:  Short day, 3rd light to the stairs as we have a practice tomorrow at Morley Field to show the new kids the league course.  No meet this week.

75% of the way done now!  This has been a crazy wild ride and now the light is beginning to be a little pin hole at the end of the tunnel.  Please keep sharing this, supporting in anyway possible, and donating if you haven't already!

Total Miles:  1523.65  Pace Runner:  1456.78   +  66.87 miles (I can't let this cushion fall below 50 miles!  Time to get to work!)

Love you Mom & Dad!  Time to start working a little harder and get this done!  <3

Sat, Sept 15th

Early morning run today around Fiesta Bay at 6:45 AM to try and beat the heat.  We have our XC meet @ Morley Field for the Mt. Carmel Invitational.  Going to be a warm one, that's for sure!

Warped from the heat!.

Just in case any of you think this is easy, it is not!  The mileage is one thing but for the most part, that isn't the worst of it all.  The time factor is big thing!  Trying to fit in all of the things you normally do in your life along with the running time, stretching time, icing time, extra showers, trying to get more rest (which I could never get enough before I started this!) promoting the fundraising, and the list goes on along with trying to manage my many jobs, family time, social time, and don't get me started on my house, it is a disaster!  I won't even bring in the heat factor...

Glad to get some decent mileage today as that has become an issue as well with limited mileage during XC training during the week

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/223876761

Also broke the 1500 mile mark on this run!

Week of Sept 10 - 14th

Tuesday was the Torrey Pines run.  Monday I took off from running to play in our school's golf tourney to raise $ for tuition assistance.  It was a fun scramble & I played better than I expected!

Here is a link to a great 60 minutes piece they did last year on the 1st responders 10 years later.  A great tribute to some good people "just doing their job"

Wednesday was our usual hill party and I decided to run a hill just to see how it would be as I am a little wary of getting injured!  I survived and I got a little more mileage in too!  Might do more next week!

Thursday brings us to another trip down the Torrey Pines trail.  This one is a favorite of many of the girls, a single track through the canyon once you get past the dog park by TPHS.

Friday was a WASC day at school so the kids didn't have to come to school and the JV kids didn't have practice.  The heat was pretty ridiculous and so I went down to the beach to run where it was a bit more tolerable.

Not San Diego weather, that's for sure!

I will leave you with another good story from ESPN OTL about a coach and his XC team in SF.  Very cool:
